This film provides a wonderful cultural insight into a time the 1960s into the politically charged East Pakistan. This land is now the independent Bangladesh. The film is visually stunning and provides a window into the world of a family where a young boy is forced to attend a traditional Islamic school to learn the Quran. There is a mix of cultures and around the boy and the family are various Hindu celebrations going on. There is a stark contrast between the two. The father is regimented and the mother is more liberal and that too provides tension which keeps the story alive. As Bangladesh is not known as a film making country like India, this is a gem of film that should not be missed.
