The subtitle is A True story from Iraq and is written and illustrated bu Jeanette Winter. The story is about a librarian by the name of Alia, and the love she has for books. When war breaks out, and the city is being bombed she worries the books will be destroyed. The library is hit. She takes matters into her own hands and takes the books away from for safe-keeping to her house. She cares for the books like little children and hopes one day that she will have a new library.
